Single Friendly Church welcomes you to a wonderful day out in the heart of London.
Join us for a riveting guided walk in Greenwich taking in many of the rich sites London has to offer! This event will be a great opportunity for single Christians to mingle and meet new people.
The guided walk
Come and join us in this World Heritage site with buildings, monuments and institutions that give a unique insight into hundreds of years of royal, maritime, and Christian history. We will be visiting:
The Cutty Stark ~ once the fastest ship in the world; find out where its strange name comes from.
St Alfege's ~ an exquisite eighteenth century church, with roots going back to Anglo-Saxon times and the martyrdom of an Archbishop of Canterbury.
The Royal Naval College ~ monumental buildings designed by Christopher Wren; originally a hospital, including neo-classical masterpieces.
The Chapel and The Painted Hall. The Queen's House ~ designed by Inigo Jones for the Stuart court in seventeenth century.
The National Maritime Museum.
The Royal Observatory ~ on top of the hill, with wonderful views of London both ancient and modern.
N.B. Please note that we will mostly be seeing these magnificent buildings from the outside. We will be able to go inside some of the grounds, depending on which are open and which are free to visit. Keith will explain the architecture, history and significance of each building.
We will meet at 10.00am at Tower Pier and take a boat to Greenwich. Those who do not want to take the boat over can meet us at the Cutty Sark in Greenwich for 11am. We will cover some of the sites before heading to a riverside pub for lunch. After lunch we will continue the guided walk and finish around 4pm.
This event will be a great chance to see this country's unique Christian history come to life while meeting and getting to know new people in a relaxed setting.
Our last guided tour was a huge success and sold out, so we encourage you to book soon!
